In August of 2008, the Olympic Movement – by any measure the most successful international movement in history – will reach a new zenith in Beijing. This 17-day cerebration is destined to eclipse all previous sporting events in scope, magnitude and worldwide visibility. By emphasizing the values of individual excellence, friendship and human solidarity, the Games will draw the entire world together.
In July 2001, Beijing succeeded in its bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games. The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG), established at the end of 2001, set the themes for the 2008 Games as "Green Olympic Games", "High-tech Olympic Games" and "People's Olympic Games". The official slogan is "One World One Dream", which reflects the essence and the universal values of the Olympic Spirit – Unity, Friendship, Progress, Harmony, Participation and Dream – and expresses the common wishes of people all over the world, inspired by the Olympic ideals, to strive for a bright future of mankind.
